Corbett to Support Bill to Ban Workplace Discrimination in PA

Gov. Tom Corbett is having a change of heart and will support legislation that would make it unlawful to fire someone, refuse service in a business or deny housing based on sexual orientation.

Corbett, who has previously held conservative positions on social issues, told The Philadelphia Inquirer on tuesday that he was "coming out in support" after learning that federal law does not cover discrimination in the state.

A record number of bipartisan lawmakers have signed on as sponsors of House Bill 300 and Senate Bill 300. They have a combined 102 sponsors, 77 in the House and 25 in the Senate, including seven House Republicans and two Senate Republicans.

There are 21 other states, including neighboring Maryland, New Jersey and New York, that already have such bans on the books
